It was an incredible weekend to say the very least! I was able to witness a phenomenal flute performance by my colleague DeShaun King! He brought down the house during his senior recital! One of my teammates from playing football at Duke came with me to DeShaun’s dress rehearsal and was very impressed with what he heard. I knew from the very beginning that he was going to blow the audience away and he did not disappoint.

The emotion in his body language and the crispness in his tone put viewers/listeners in a trance that could not be broken. All the hard work, late nights, and dedication paid off on Saturday but it doesn’t stop there for him. Graduating from Duke is just the ending of this chapter and the beginning of the next! I can’t wait to see what God has in store for him throughout graduate school and even on through the distant future. You best believe we’ll be keeping in touch!

Following a quick break after the first half of his recital, DeShaun premiered my new piece Dreams and Reflections. He asked me to come on stage and say a few words about the piece which always seems to bug me out, speaking about my music. I know that sounds ridiculous especially for those of you who know I like to talk haha! But it is beneficial to both the composer and audience. You learn how to express your creation through spoken word and in return that gives the audience a deeper appreciation and another perspective on what they are hearing.

Well without further adieu, I give you Dreams and Reflections! Please share with all you know!
